Hey all.

I downloaded and installed the Microsoft Web Deployment Tool onto two test servers but get an error when I synchronise them:

Quote:
Fatal: Request to remote agent URL 'http://server2/MSDEPLOYAGENTSERVICE' failed.
Fatal: The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
Fatal count:1

Has anyone else come accross this error?

Any ideas welcome!

It looks as if the Web Deployment Agent Service isn't running on the target server. It is set to manual by default so you may want to change it to automatic.

Ahh, I don't have that service - how do I go about fixing that?

Edit: I tried re-installing but still no service

Did you do a typical install or full? A typical installation doesn't include the remote agent service.

Well that's embarrasing - I've now done a complete installation with the service included and it works. I just assumed that a typical installation would install everything it needs to make it work. Strange that it doesn't :?

Cheers for the help

This tool includes many features that enable Web server administrators to install, synchronize and transfer areas, including configuration, content, SSL certificates, and other information related to the web server.
