Hello.

I have just installed SBS 2008 (clean, not upgrade) and have various errors in the application log.

Quote:
Event ID: 3355
Source: Windows SharePoint Service

Cannot connect to SQL Server. SVR-01\Microsoft##SSEE not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

and

Quote:
Event ID: 5586
Source: Windows SharePoint Service

Unknown SQL Exception 2 occured. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris.

I haven't come accross this myself but found this TechNet article which may be of use to you:

Event ID 5586 (Windows SharePoint Services health model)

Let me know if it helps.

Dave

I've seen this before. It's caused by SQL files losing permissions after a specific update gets install (can't remember which one). Go to the Windows\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\DATA and check that the NETWORK SERVICE account has access (and all files inside the folder).

Cheers chaps, changing the permissions stopped the errors appearing. I installed a whole stack of updates using WSUS straight after setting up, so I've no idea at which point they went wrong.

Hello,
It's really good post
SharePoint Development is evolving with a lightning speed day by day as companies are growing. As companies grow, it is difficult to manage the record of files, documents, and their location in the companies. SharePoint Development helps you to store the files and documents and share it on a central site.

SharePoint Development means integrating SharePoint into the existing software development environment. SharePoint is a Microsoft Product, which is used to develop information portals in the organization. These information portals enable the people to connect and collaborate with the information available in the organization.

Hi cocker/chris,
Can you Please specify the exact path of the folder on which we need to provide access for Network Service.
The folder i can see in my system is "C:\Windows\SysMsiCache\WSSEE" , but i am unable to find further folder structure... \MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\DATA inside it.

Is it a hidden folder? Do you need to change Explorer settings to show hidden files?

I spent 3 hours searching Google for an answer to this weird problem. This seemed to fix it! So weird. Half the files still maintained their permissions and half lost them, causing the error. THANKS!!!
