Hi.

I'm fairly new to Windows 2008 and was hoping to use a spare server with Hyper-V to create a test environment for various servers and applications. I've installed Windows 2008 DatCentre edition, supposedly with Hyper-V, but can't find it. It isn't available to add as a role or feature.

I've had a quick search and some people are saying it's only for x64 systems not x86. I downloaded it from MSDN (there were two versions, one with Hyper-V and one without). If it isn't available why give a choice and then not let you use it?

Thanks.

Hi Skeetz.

That's right, Hyper-V is only available for 64bit hardware. You could always try VMWare ESXi 3.5 which will run on 32bit hardware. Here is where to get it: https://www.vmware.com/tryvmware

Hope this helps.

Dave
