Hi.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a photocopier not being able to scan to folder (it just says Connection with PC has failed. Check the Settings). It used to work on my Windows 2003 SBS but not my Windows 2008 SBS. I know all the settings are correct so it's not that.

Can I view the log file for the Windows firewall to see if it is blocking it?

Thanks.

Hi John.

There is a log and the default path is C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\Firewall\pfirewall.log

If this file is empty or doesn't exist then logging is probably not enabled. You can change this by opening Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. On the overview page, in the Actions pane, click Properties. Change your log settings as you see fit.

Dave

Thanks Dave. I enabled logging but it didn't help me find the cause of the problem as I couldn't see anything being blocked.

The variety and sophistication of computer hackers, spyware sources, and virus codes spreading on the Internet make proper Internet security a number one concern for anyone using a PC. The best way to protect your computer is by taking a 4-prong approach. You need a good firewall (either internal or external), though an external firewall will protect and police your internet traffic better. In addition to a good firewall, you will need the other of the "big 4" of internet security, an antivirus program, an anti-spyware program and regular software updates.

The primary function of the program is conducted in an impeccable manner. The firewall intercepts any connection type, whether they are received or from your computer. Monitors network traffic in real time and prevents hacker attacks to your machine.
