Rename C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and try again

Can you access http://update.microsoft.com and http://www.windowsupdate.com in a browser?

Is there anything detailed in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log that may help identify the issue?

Hi. It turns out that some of the pages were being blocked by my proxy. I could browse the Windows Update site no problem but the .cab files it wanted to download were being blocked (I managed to figure that out by looking in the windowsupdate.log file so thanks for the pointer).
