I get this error when trying to search my SharePoint site. It's SharePoint Foundation 2010.

"Your search cannot be completed because this site is not assigned to an indexer"

How do I fix this please?

The search isn't started by default. To do this log into Central Administration, under System Settings click Manage Services on Server then click Start next to Sharepoint Foundation Search

Thanks Dave. I managed to get a bit further - it now tells me it can't find any search results, no matter what I search for.

Check that the user configured for the search service has access to the database, otherwise it can't crawl it

-To allow the search service to start the credentials from Local Service to Local System.

-To fix the “not assigned to indexer” error use Central Administration.

-Navigate to the “Manage content databases.”
